Owning A Pig
Pigs would actually make a great pet. Many people already own them and some desire pet pigs. Many people wonder, though, what types are the best for owning? Also, how do you take care of them? These questions are asked by many wannabe pig owners.
Obviously, the best types of pigs to own are the smallest ones. You don't want a huge pig trotting around your house all day. One of the best pig breeds for that is the pot belly pig. They are usually about 120 or 150 pounds, but are about the size of a small dog. Their average life span is about 12-15 years, but they have seen many exceed that. Some of them appear to be more plump, while others look more skinny and athletic.
Pigs are actually very intelligent. They can learn what a dog can, but faster. They can learn how to open cupboards, with proper training (food motivation). They should only be given about one treat at a time. Cheerios, grapes, or raisins are some good treats to feed them. Some have favorite music or even a favorite TV show! You must supply a pen with a bed, a blanket, food, water, and a litter box. They start by not liking being picked up and can be trained to walk on a leash. They need to be given constant water and cooling while outside because they don't sweat. A kiddie pool would be best. In conclusion, pigs need love, not much food, constant water access, blankets, and a litter box. Pigs are a great responsibility.
